In the bestselling 2014 book “The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace,” Jeff Hobbs tells the story of Peace, his Yale roommate who died after being fatally shot in Newark when he was 30.
Peace, an exceptional student, studied molecular biochemistry and biophysics at Yale. He was caught between two worlds before he was found dead in 2011.
Hobbs, who lived with Peace for four years at the Ivy League university, explores Peace’s upbringing in the book. Peace grew up in East Orange with a single mother who worked hard at low wages to pay his private school tuition. His father was in prison.
